In 2016, PMI introduced the PMI Talent Triangle and introduced new requirements for earning PDUs.Changes to PDU submissions include new PMI PDU categories, a PMP PDU breakdown, and PMP PDU limits for each category.
Note that PMI has recently changed the names of PDUs in the Education category. PDUs in the technical project management category will henceforth be replaced by "Working methods"; PDUs in the category of Strategic and Business Management are replaced by "Business Acumen"; PDUs in the Leadership category are replaced by "Power Skills".
The PMI Talent Triangle suggests that ideal project manager skills includeWays of working, skills, power, business acumen. Therefore, a PMP Certified Professional must acquire PMP PDUs that correspond to these three categories of the PMI Talent Triangle. Let us now go through the PMP PDU requirements in detail one by one.
PMP PDU Requirements #1 - Minimum of 35 PMP PDUs for educational institutions
The first PMP PDU requirement is that a PMP Certified Professional must earn at least 35 educational PMP PDUs.The Education category has the following PDU earning sources:
- course or training
- Organizational meetings
- Online digital media
- Informal learning
In addition, these educational PDUs must contain at least 8 PDUs from each category of the PMI Talent Triangle: Ways of Working, Power Skills, and Business Acumen. After completing 8 PDUs in each category, the remaining 11 PDUs in the education category can fall into any category of the PMI Talent Triangle.Note that the minimum required PMP PDU limit is 35 Education Category PDUs.
